A Non-Governmental Organization, Contributory Pension and Happy Retirement Advocacy (COPEHRA) says it is currently synergizing with relevant stakeholders to sensitize Nigerians on the importance of contributory pension in Nigeria.

Founder of COPEHRA, Mrs. Lubabatu Sani Buhari made the disclosure at a roundtable meeting over the weekend in Abuja.

She said the Organization was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in June 2016 with the sole aim of driving advocacy on the need for Nigerians to key into Contributory pension.

The founder who was represented by Mr. Sani Mustapha added that “There is an awareness gap in Nigeria especially in the informal sector for people to key into Contributory pensions, as such as an NGO, our job is to see Nigerians retire happily with something to fall back on.

“Therefore, we are working with all stakeholders in the pension sector and hopefully the goal is to enlighten many more Nigerians to prepare for their old age by cultivating savings culture so that a larger part of the population will”

The founder also announced that COPEHRA will be holding a walk in Abuja in February to drive home their mission of sensitizing Nigerians on the Scheme.

Also in his remarks, the Chairman Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) Barr. Sunny Osuagu said the NGO is working with relevant sectors in to creat awareness in different areas and development in the pension industry.

He explained that “Many Retirement Savings Account (RSA) are not aware that the National Pension Commission has launched an initiative which allows you to switch from one PFA to another of you’re not satisfied with their services.

“Also, the Pension Reformed Act (PRA) 2014 is in the process of review to allow for more robust contributions and other initiatives in the industry which many Nigerians are not aware.

“Therefore, COPEHRA now come as the sensitizer in this area, while also advocating for employers to understand how vital it is to enroll their employees into the Contributory Pension Scheme CPS,”

Barr. Osuagu further stated that the Organization has lined up series of engagements and activities this year aimed at informing and educating the informal sector on the culture of savings.
